JOHN C. MADDUX is Of Counsel to Nevers, Palazzo, Maddux & Packard. John was a shareholder in the firm from 1997 through 2004, when he became a member of Meruelo Maddux Properties. While engaging more directly in real estate development activities, John continues to provide his talents to Nevers, Palazzo, Maddux & Packard and its clients as needed.

John has significant experience in commercial real estate transactions, with particular emphasis in real estate finance, leasing and development, having represented both institutional lenders and borrowers, and in real property purchase and sale and exchange transactions, administrative law and land use matters for nineteen years. He has represented banks, developers and other financial institutions in making, obtaining and restructuring construction and permanent loans for all types of projects throughout the country. John has experience in all facets of real estate finance, including loan agreements, mortgages, deeds of trust and other security instruments, credit enhancement, mechanics’ liens, title insurance, guaranties, letters of credit, legal opinions and related matters. He has acted as lead real estate counsel in several large, multi-state financings and real estate acquisitions which require the simultaneous closing of multiple loans and acquisitions secured by hundreds of properties located in as many as thirty-five states.

John received his BS in Finance with honors from Brigham Young University in 1983. He graduated cum laude from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, in 1986. John practiced law in Los Angeles and in San Francisco with the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers from 1986 through 1996.
